Then I will camp around My house [as a guard] because of an army, Because of him who passes by and returns; And no oppressor will again overrun them (Israel), For now My eyes are upon them [providentially protecting them]. – Zechariah 9:8 (AMP) Amplified Bible
“I will guard my Temple and protect it from invading armies. I am watching closely to ensure that no more foreign oppressors overrun my people’s land. – Zechariah 9:8 (NLT) New Living Translation
In the above verse, God says He will personally guard His House, house indicated here is a person’s body. New living Translation puts it as ‘temple’. This is one of God’s promises we should rejoice in especially those of us who is God’s temple because we are personally guarded by God Himself, not an angel but the Alfa and Omega Himself, what peace! Hallelujah!
Now we notice God’s promise isn’t to everyone but to a specified set of people, those He claims as His temple. What does it mean to be God’s temple? In other to be God’s temple our body needs to be Holy because everything about God is Holy. We must try as much as possible through the help of the Holy Spirit to live above sin because no matter how much God loves a man, sin cannot make Him dwell in such a person. And any man who isn’t guarded by God is exposed, as the verse puts it, to invading enemies. Remember the verse makes us understand that whoever God is protecting His temple from goes away for a while and returns yet again. (Matthew 12:45).
Who are the invading armies? The devil and his demons, rulers of darkness, principalities and powers that Apostle Paul spoke of in Ephesians 6:12, these are the invading armies that bring failure, unfruitfulness, depression, challenges, sicknesses, stagnation, poverty and the rest to man. Nevertheless the Lord guards those that are His.
He guards His temple Himself, keeping camp around His temple. In other words, He neither sleeps nor slumber and ensures no foreign oppressor overruns His temple. The temple of God can only be guarded by God if it’s kept Holy. Therefore the temple of God must be filled with His Spirit. That is why it is very important for us to keep our temples Holy and not make the Holy Spirit uncomfortable in our body. Holiness is very important as far as God is concerned.
God will ensure no foreign oppressors overrun your land. Hence, sickness shouldn’t be your portion, failure, captivity, bondage and the rest are not permitted in your land. So when the oppressors come around your temple or your territory, they can do nothing because the Lord Himself guards you.
