The only thing on earth that has eternal consequence is the will of God. No wonder the bible says, “for all that is in the world, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and then pride of life, is not of the father but of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof but the man that does the will of God abides forever”(1 John 2:15-17). It is a height of foolishness to invest your energy, time, resources in things that have no eternal value. Have you discovered the will of God for your life? Will the time you have left be enough to realize all the possibilities of your life? Do you still gave enough time to go the full distance as far the purpose of God is concerned? Can you now see the reason why it is good to give God the days of your youth? He that will make the most of life must make the most of youth.

Hear this: life is short. The psalmist said, “remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain (Psalm 89:47)?” life is very brief and there is so much to do within that short life. Jesus was very conscious of the brevity of life and so set about the main business of life at age 12 and by age 33,he was done. Even the devil is conscious of that fact. The bible says that he (the devil) knew that he had a short time. Small wonder he came down from heaven with great wrath (Revelation 12:12). In my opinion, the devil is the most zealous and passionate entity on earth. Reason? He knew he has a short time to fulfill his mission (John 10:10). When you are conscious of the shortness of life, you will go out of your way to do that thing God has called you to do. Dilly dallying, procrastination, temporizing are symptoms of lack of the consciousness of the brevity of life. Lack of the consciousness of the brevity of life among others, the reason for a wasted youth. A lot of Young people are of the opinion that “Youth is the time for pleasure, manhood the time for business, and old age the time for religion”.

What they are saying in essence is that there is time enough to do what they want to do and still serve God but they are dead wrong. Are you conscious of the brevity of life? Do you live as if you have time to play with? Do you still call yourself sweet sixteen when you are decidedly past it? Do you still savor the compliments if those who say you look younger than your age when you are already out living our usefulness? Your look may belie your age but the fact remains that you are finally winding down. No amount of make-ups can make up for aging. The cleavage-revealing and breast-hugging dresses may take years off you but the fact remains that you are running out of steam with each passing day. The change in your body texture an the appearance of grey hair on your head are indications that you don’t have time on your side anymore. The wrinkles on your face are telling you that you will soon get past it. Take an honest look at yourself and you will see that the night is closing in (John 9:4). Sooner or later, you will admittedly say like Barzilla (2 Samuel 19:33-34), in response to David’s invitation, ” How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem? I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? Can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Wherefore then should thy servants be yet a burden unto my lord the king? Thy servants will go a little way over Jordan with the king:…?” He could only go as far as Jordan instead of Jerusalem. Why? Age was no longer on his side. It is high time you got down to the main business of life- the will of God. You have spent enough time doing your own thing, living your own life, pursuing your own agenda. It is high time you discover and pursue the main reason behind your life. It is time to be dead serious about things of eternal significance. It is time you discover the one thing needful (Luke 10:40-42). Life is meant for something higher and better than the acquisition of material things and the pursuit of frivolities (Luke 12:15). It is time to pray, “so teach us to number our days so we may apply our heart to wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). Only God can teach a man how to make most of a short life. Life will be a bundle of trial and error except God shows you the way to go. Life will be a chronicle of wasted time except God shows you what you ought to do with your life. That is why you need to ask Him, ‘what will you have me to do?” (Acts 9:6).

If you have not given your life to Jesus, you have not started at all. You are unprofitable as far as God is concerned. You can decide today to live a profitable life. You can decide to live a life that brings glory to God. Stop being a disappointment to your Creator. Stop being a tool in the hand of the devil. Decide to live the rest of your time in the flesh for the will of God and not for the lusts of men. Onesimus means profitable but he did not live up to his name until he met Jesus. It is only in Christ that you can lead a profitable life. Accept Jesus today as your Saviour and Lord.
