As a lady, when you know who you are, you will not easily give in to the sweet whispers of morally wrapped men who want to use you to satisfy their urgent sexual need and ditch you once that need is met. Those men are not looking for the right women but the women right now. When you know who you are, you will not present yourself as a SEX OBJECT designed to gratify men’s SEXUAL APPETITE. When you know who you are, your slogan will not be “If you have got it, flaunt it”. Have you ever seen a princess bare her breast? Show me a girl who flaunts her asset and I will show you a girl who is a FLOTSAM AND JETSAM on the rivers of life. A princess does not dress to reveal the erogenous zones of her body that can ignite the fire of lust in men and lure them into the forbidden zone of sexual immorality.

Girls who know who they are use what they have to God’s advantage. Esther is a case in point. Rather than use what she had to make heads turn, what she had paved way for her destiny (Esther 2:2). Abigail used what she had (good understanding and beautiful countenance- 1st Samuel 25:4, 32-34) to disarm king David and stop him from doing something that could have stained his record before God. Girls who know who they are don’t spend their time looking for and savouring the compliments of men with roving eyes. They don’t trade their dignity for a MORSEL OF MEAT – shawama, barbecue, suya, chicken and chips, Brazilian and Indian hair, Blackberry (Hebrews 12: 16) etc.

When you know who you are, you will not spend a disproportionate amount of your time chasing shadows and pursing things that will not outlast life. When you know who you are, you will know what to run away from and what to run after. Joseph knew who he was and hence knew what to run away from (Genesis 39). He ran away from what has become the pastime and frolic of many young men and women today. He gave a wide berth to what is being glamorized by the media and entertainment world. He ran away from what has become the order of the day. He ran away from what is in vogue. Do you know that people who know who they are don’t live their lives based on popular opinion? They don’t swim with the tide of events. They rather have the courage of their conviction to say NO to what the spiritually uninformed majority are saying YES to. Their motto is “others may but I cannot”. They are exceptions to the rule. Joseph knew that the destiny of his generation was inextricably linked with his. He knew he could not afford to mess up or a lot will be at stake. That generation would have died of hunger but for the man who dared to be different. The destiny of his generation would have been mortgaged if he had overstepped his bounds. Who knows whether you are the Joseph of your family? I am of the opinion that there is a Joseph in every family. If you are the Joseph of your family and you are already teetering on the edge of disaster by toying with sins, how will your God-given dream see the light of the day?

It is not always difficult to recognize Josephs. They always stand out from the crowd. They are not products of their environment. They take a stand for what is right in spite of the odds. Their language is not “If you can’t beat them, join them”. Show me a man who knows who he is and I will show you a man who doesn’t take chances with his future. The reason many jump at the baits the devil dangles before them is because of ignorance of who they are. Men who know who they are take the long look before they do anything. They look before they leap. They think twice before they cross the Rubicon of decision. They weigh the pros and cons of their action. They look at the Big Picture. They think about the generational impact of a single false move (Romans 5:19). They know that one moment of pleasure will always be followed by days and years of shame, regrets and irredeemable loss. When you don’t know who you are, you will give in to instant gratification like ESAU and consequently sell your birthright for a SONG. Men who know who they are look at what the enemy offers them through the eyes of God and not through the eyes of the world. Joseph looked at what the devil offered him (cheap sex) through the eyes of God and called it “great wickedness”. He called great wickedness what is euphemistically referred to as fun, hook-up, love affair, youthful indiscretion, tricks of youth, juvenile error, peccadillo etc.

Do you know who you are and where you are going? You can’t unless you accept Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. He is the only person who can show you who you are. Repent of your sins and accept Him now before it is too late.
